I’m So Busy I Can’t See Straight

Hi Everyone!

You may have noticed that I have not been blogging as much and more than likely will not be able to for awhile. It’s not because I have writer’s block or creativity block. It’s actually quite the opposite! I have creativity overload right now and have so much I want to share but have so little time.

I have my daughter’s 8th birthday coming up and with that a big party with all of her friends at our house. I have been working on getting things ready for the big bash this weekend. Soon after that we will be hosting my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary at our house. Right around the corner from that is Bency’s 6th birthday and another party to plan. Two days after his party we will be leaving for a 2 week cross country trip to visit our family in Albuquerque, NM.

In between all of this exciting stuff to plan I have been trying to do spring cleaning. My attempts are absolutely fruitless I fear because everywhere I turn there are:

Spills everywhere!

Spills everywhere!

Kids bringing jars of bugs into the house....

Kids bringing jars of bugs into the house….

Besides kids spilling things and bringing jars of bugs into the house the weather is warming up and we are getting some rain so the house is constantly being tracked up with mud….

It's finally getting nice so we can play outside...look at all of the mud. Also notice Bency is only wearing socks!

Along with all of this fun stuff I am also working on a children’s book. Not to get published or anything mind you, just a fun book that I can give to my kids to read and I will also get an extra one made up to do a giveaway on my blog. I have the story written, 5 pictures done and 8 more to go!

Even though I am extremely busy I will still continue to read blogs. It’s the only way I can start my day. I try to wake up by 4:30 or 5:00 am everyday, grab a cup of coffee and read blogs. If I get behind, please forgive me….I will read them all eventually!

So I leave you today as I go start cleaning up all of the mud in the house that this weekend brought, make a snack for my son’s Kindergarten class that I will bring in when I go volunteer later and put the finishing touches on my daughter’s birthday party!

Best wishes to you all,

Melissa

  1. Forget the winter holidays. May is the busiest month, in my opinion. It’s so deceptive because it’s spring and it seems like you should be able to slow down and sit in the sun, but it’s just not the case. And I don’t even have kids born in May.

That’s a lot of parties! At least it’s good times in your house. Hope you share your party themes and decorations — I’m always on the lookout for easy party ideas.

And yay for you for writing your children’s book! Good luck with all your projects and events! See you on the flip side.

    • Thank you so much Joan! Yes, I definitely agree that May feels so much busier than the winter holidays. I think for me it’s because I get a little “spring” in my step and want to do so much more!!

  2. Birthdays definitely warrant a hiatus from blogging! It’s a HUGE production. Take your time and do what you do best, which is inspire others through your creativity. Can’t wait to see the children’s book. Also, don’t forget to carve out a small space for yourself this Mother’s Day. Hope you have a great time celebrating both you and your daughter! 🙂

  3. Melissa, Be Blessed, Enjoy, and remember Motherhood is an Art. Great Post and please know you are not alone and somewhere else might be worse. Glad to hear that you’ll be checking in on blogs you’re following and reading posts. Family togetherness and interaction is important. Kind regards to all. Be Blessed, Mtetar

      • You’re Welcome, and please do. Kindly feel free to email if I can be of help in anyway. I’ll be looking forward to updates about the book as well as other updates, if time is available. Be Blessed, Mtetar

  4. Girl, I hear ya! I hate it when life gets in the way of my blogging, but it sure has lately. My stats flatlined a long time ago.

But you sound exceptionally busy, with lots of fun stuff planned. I wish you well on everything.

    • I feel bad now saying I’m busy when I think of you! I know I can’t possibly have as much going on as you do. I guess it’s all in the perception. I’m used to a more laid back kind of life. I know when I don’t see a post from you in awhile I get worried but I have to tell myself that you are working, running kids to karate and whipping up those delicious meals!

      • Oh, don’t feel bad! I know for a fact that stay at home moms fill their days with lots of stuff. I saw something recently a commercial about what NOT to say to a SAHM…and then it showed one lady asking another, “So, what do you DO all day?” LOL! We all have our challenges.

  5. Melissa! You are a force to be contented with, truly. Such. A. Champion!

Happy (early) birthdays to your little ones! I know you must throw the absolute BEST birthday parties. And that’s exciting to hear about the upcoming trip. You will have an absolute blast, I have no doubt. Can’t wait to hear about all these adventures! x

    • Isn’t that just the truth. I already miss so many things but just yesterday I was reminiscing about last year when Bency was still home everyday. We had such a fun year together when it was basically just him and I (Cesar was still taking 2 naps a day so we had lots of time together)!

      • Be prepared. These days are never ending in your heart. So much to look forward to with them. And so much that goes by in a blink. I think your kids are going to miss these days as much as you do. 🙂

  6. just keep moving forward and don’t worry about what does or doesn’t happen in the timeline you had imagined. go with your gut and spend your time doing what is most important to you, the rest can wait. )

    • Thank you! That’s typically how I roll but for some reason I get really panicky when I plan things…ie…I already sent out my daughter’s birthday invitations so I really can’t call people and tell them they can’t come because I just never got around to organizing the party!!! haha!!

  7. WHOA! You’re a busy lady, Melissa! I hope all of the celebrations go off without a hitch and your 2-week trip is FANTASTIC! Can’t wait to hear about it 🙂 In the meantime, I’ll miss seeing your name in my inbox 😦

P.S. We have the same swing set!! And mud…

    • Thanks Stephanie! Grandma just bought all of the kids new shoes….it breaks my heart to see those shiny new shoes all covered in mud! Obviously Bency wearing only socks outside is not a great alternative either…can you say laundry up the wazoo?

  8. Melissa …. That mud doesn’t show one little bit on your floor … it is a bit crunchy here and there ( dried mud ), but other than that your floor choice is so concealing and forgiving. Whatever Bency spilled will match the floor perfectly … in a few days … could be a tad sticky I suppose, but sticky is good … slows down the running of over active children … Don’t fret the spring cleaning … there is always fall …. and if you miss that … try again next spring … Dirt and filth is ever so patient ……it will wait for YOU as long as it takes …. My dirt and filth has waited so long …. I’m starting to nurture it !!!

  9. Melissa, we are going at the same pace these days! Your post prompted me to shout out to the blogging world that I still love to write but just can’t seem to meet up with the laptop at the right times! Enjoy all these special days with your kids–we are having a lot of fun here despite the tiring pace. L had his spring piano recital at school this evening so the kids got into bed an hour later than usual! Sigh. I look forward to reading your posts when things settle a bit! –Alison

    • I agree about enjoying these days while we have them. For the most part I really am and try to carve out a little time for blogging but sometimes it just gets overwhelming with all it takes to keep it up. I know you have a lot going on too and think about you often!

  10. Wow! Go Super Mom! Such fun and exciting times in your house! I’m sure all of the parties will be a big hit. Enjoy & don’t feel bad about sleeping in until 5:30 or even 6am! 4:30 just sounds way to early! Take care!

    • Thank you Cathy! Believe it or not I actually enjoy waking up that early. It’s the only time the house is ever quiet. I’ve been a morning person all of my life…even when I was a teenager! My husband is the same way. Sometimes after a particularly long week or when the kids weren’t sleeping well at night we would take turns sleeping in. On our turns we were always up at 6 am feeling refreshed!

  11. Oh Melissa, you sound like me! My sister, who is very near and dear to me, celebrated a B-day last Friday and I spent the day entire with her. My daughter Charlotte is turning 13 (OMG!!) this coming Friday… I have gone to 3 job interviews in between, wrote 3 hours of tests for a Federal Government job, trying to clean the house, Spring cleaning… I have so many ideas for my blog as well but I just can’t find the time to do it! I sympathize with you!

  12. I got Ryan & Nichole a plaque for their house which says “Forgive the mess…the kids are busy making memories” …..& that’s what means the most! You’ll have lots of time to clean after they’re gone & oh how the time flies. Next week you’ll be planning graduations & weddings! ♡♥

    • That’s sounds like a great sign Wendy! For the most part I embrace the messy house but sometimes I have to do a few things around here so people have a place to sit down and so Disease Control doesn’t have to be called in!

  13. Life gets in the way – no stopping it and you have your hands full it seems for a little while. Enjoy your little break from here and try not to burn yourself out! Take Care lovely Mel .
    Though she maybe busy
She shall read a blog or 2
and catch up when she has the time
we know it to be true
    for she has other matters
    to which she must attend
and we shall wait till she’s all done
our love to you we send
    xx

  14. I hear ya! I have three weeks of work left until summer and it feels like I’m just chasing my tail to get everything done! I’m beat most days and all the stuff I should blog about gets lost when I crash! No worries! Hope you have excellent parties and a wonderful trip!

  15. Need one more thing to add to your list!?

I’m so glad I found your blog (or you found me and led me here?) and love reading your takes on not only motherhood, but what it means to be a woman who is a mother. And so, I’d like to nominate you for The Sunshine Award. For more info, please visit http://wp.me/p27R0K-cC

    Thank you and congratulations!

  16. What is up with May and birthdays ha? my son and husband’s birthday is in May too (20th and 24th) + mother’s day & 2 baby showers 🙂 I get you! you go and do what you have to do busy mama! planning kids birthdays is a full time job 😉 & spend time outside; it’s worth it, I’ve been blogging less too because with Nate we go outside at least 3 times a day! enjoy your time off blogging! & glad to see you worked on your book 🙂

    • Oh my….you almost have a 2 year old!!! Boy, how time flies! I have not been able to get Cesar to come in the house the past few days at all. I ask him if we can just go in for a few minutes and he says “No, thank you” very nicely! I guess I don’t blame him it’s been forever since we have been able to swing and play in the sand box! Good luck to you with everything Ingrid!

  17. Please Melissa I need that book I want that book I am begging for that book you are writing. The grandkids are getting so sick of me reading them old readers digest books. Give the little buggers some love. You know I am not working and can’t afford to gas up to go to the library or anything. OK that is a lie I drive by the library everytime I go to therapy (for my leg not mind) but I am to tired to stop.
Have a wonderful time on your retreat although it sounds like you’ll need to go to one after it is finished and tell your husband I said hello and am thinking of his wonderful music.

    • Oh Liz, you are too funny! I hope your knee is getting better. Yes, I think I need to book a room now at the funny farm for when I return from our vacation. We’re even driving the extra long way so we can see Mt. Rushmore!
