After we were done with the dyeing process I had the kids make “clothes” for their eggs using construction paper. After we had them dressed we set up them up for photo shoots in my daughter’s doll house! Enjoy our Egg Photo Shoots:
I made up a new activity to do with my 5 year old son, Bency this past weekend. Well, I should say, I think I made it up. It’s such a simple concept that it has probably been around for a hundred years and I just never heard of it.
It came about because my 7 year old daughter, Iris had a friend over and they didn’t want to include Bency in their games. Bency was feeling left out so I told him I would play with him.
First we played a very long game of chess which I finally beat him at then I suggested we do some drawing together.
Bency sighed and groaned, “Oh please don’t try to teach me how to draw Superman again.”
Since Bency is my little artist and loves to draw I had tried teaching him how to draw Superman last week. I thought he was ready to advance beyond stick people. He wasn’t. I tried to keep the lesson simple but apparently moving from stick people to Superman is too big of a leap.
So I quick came up with another idea.
I’ll call it Cloud Drawing.
This requires two or more people
One person starts out by drawing a 1-3 inch line on the paper in any direction either straight or with curves (anything goes it just has to be 1-3 inches).
The next person starts off where the last person left off (keep the lines connected) drawing their own 1-3 line or curve.
This continues until the lines finally find their way back to the starting point and you have one large shape.
Now the fun part is trying to decide what it looks like. It’s similar to cloud watching!
We turned the paper every which way and would decide what it most resembled and then I went in and added details to bring what started out as a blob to life!
This was a great activity and would make for an excellent road trip game, some rainy day fun or in our case a cold, winter day with no one to play with except your Mom!
Here are some examples of the ones we made:
Bency and I both saw a tree with a bird perched on it so I went in and added bark for the tree and an eye for the bird!
Bency saw a pirate standing by a tree…I didn’t see it at all so he went in and added the details on this one!
We saw a puppy in this one but I had to add the tail and eyes!
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we are having our family and friends join us at our house for a feast.
Since I was busy this morning getting everything ready for tomorrow and the kids are off of school; I put them to work making things to decorate the house.
I decided upon a series of people cut out of paper bags for them to color and we could create a chain of them. I told the kids this symbolized the coming together as family and friends at Thanksgiving time.

I went in to check on them in between washing dishes and getting some cooking done.
My 5 year old, Bency was on his third person and said, “This person’s getting the mad face.”
I shrieked, “What??? No! You can’t have a mad person in the Thanksgiving chain! They must all be happy!”
Bency shrugged his shoulders and said, “Well, I’ve already made one happy and one sad. I need a mad one now.”
I paused for a moment and thought.
Bency really has Thanksgiving figured out. Thanksgiving brings out a whole range of emotions.
First, you’re happy when you see all of the food. Secondly, you’re sad when you realize how much you’ve just eaten and lastly you just get down right mad at yourself when you keep going back for more.
Bency said he needs me to make a few more people for him to color. He forgot to make a “surprised person.”
Yes, Thanksgiving brings out the surprise in all of us when we just can’t seem to button those pants the next day!

The mad, the sad and the happy of Thanksgiving!
I realize I’m not the first person in the world to make their own cereal and hopefully after I show you this fun project we did I won’t be the last!
First, we made our cereal. I researched several recipes and kind of came up with my own that would work best for us:

While the cereal was cooking and cooling I gave each of my older kids the assignment to make a cereal label for the cereal they just made.
Iris named her cereal “Crunch, Crunch, Munch, Munch, Lick, Lick.” She drew a picture of our family. My husband and I are eating candy bars, the older kids are eating lollipops and the baby is eating a popsicle. I really think this girl might have a future in marketing. How brilliant to disguise a healthy cereal in a box covered in delectable treats!!

My son Bency, named his cereal “The Life of Goodnis.” I like this! It sounds expensive (despite the misspelling)! It conjures up thoughts of enjoying a bowl of cereal, eating on a patio overlooking an ocean view!

I put their homemade cereal in a Ziploc bag, put it in an old, empty cereal box and attached their new labels!
My kids really liked this project and they LOVED the cereal! Iris thinks we should present it to the “grocery store guy” and see if he wants to buy it from us!
